Pardee Hall, Fourth Floor

The Department of Languages & Literature Studies (LLS) is located on the fourth floor of historic Pardee Hall, which first opened its doors to Lafayette students in 1872. Today, students meet and interact in “smart” classrooms that allow for the projection of websites, databases,  student writing and revision, as well as film and media apps.

The Department’s dynamic faculty members offer eight modern languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish) and two classical languages (Greek and Latin), all of which are taught with digital technologies available in Pardee Hall’s smart classrooms and the LLS Resource Center.

The LLS Resource Center (LLS/RC) is a state-of-the-art space that offers a variety of resources to facilitate language learning and the study of other cultures. At the LLS/RC, students have access to everything from authentic international programs to the latest in pedagogical software. Here, students learn how to build e-portfolios that showcase and help them reflect on their language learning journey. Native speakers and advanced learners of the  languages we teach are always on hand to help, serving as tutors and conversation partners. Feel free to stop by the LLS/RC located in Pardee Hall 418 and 419. For more information visit the LLS/RC website.

Max Kade Center for German Studies

Located on the fourth floor of Pardee Hall in room 429, the Max Kade Center for German Studies offers a forum in which students, faculty, and the public at large can gain a greater understanding of the histories, the cultures, and the political, economic, and social developments of German-speaking countries and their impact on America’s past, present, and future. The Max Kade Center now includes the Max Kade House that provides housing for our writers-in-residence and speakers.
